Laser Eyelid Lift

Are you concerned about wrinkled and loose skin of the upper and lower eyelids? Do you have dark rings or bags under your eyes? Are your eyebrows beginning to droop and make you look sad all the time? Do you always look tired and appear older than you are?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you may be a candidate for the fractional laser eyelid lift.

The laser eye lift is a fractionated CO2 ablative laser procedure on the skin around the eye and lids. The laser beam is broken into microscopic columns of laser light. When the beams strike, they leave normal surrounding skin areas intact so the outcome is very quick healing. These columns of laser light take away (or ablate) old, damaged collagen and elastic fibers so that new fresh tissue can grow into these channels. As this occurs, wrinkles and pigmentation are removed, skin tightens and the eyelids are rejuvenated. A recent study in over 300 patients showed consistent and very impressive results.

Our eyelid lift procedure is non-invasive, so you can evade the pain and long recovery typically associated with eyelid surgery.  The Laser Eyelift procedure can be used on different skin types.  To ensure that there will not be any pigmentation problems in darker skin types, we will always do a spot test somewhere inconspicuous prior to the procedure. The Laser Eye Lift is safe and your eyes will be protected with shields during the procedure, there is no risk of injury to the eyes. Only a numbing cream is applied to the eyelids for anesthesia and three to five sessions are recommended at 2-3 week intervals.

Laser Eye Lift Procedure Treats:

  • Wrinkles around your eyes
  • Crow’s feet
  • Loose skin on your eyelids
  • Reduce dark circles
  • Raise eyebrows that are drooping

Laser Eye Lift FAQs

What is the Fractional Eye Lift?

The Fractional Eye Lift is a new type of laser eyelift. It utilizes an innovative fractional CO2 laser which creates tiny microscopic channels in the tissue so that new collagen can grow in to rejuvenate the skin.

What does the Fractional Eye Lift do?

It dramatically reduces the appearance of dark rings and wrinkles while tightening eyelid skin and elevating drooping eyebrows.

How does the Fractional Eye Lift work?

It works by utilizing a new fractional CO2 laser technology. Laser beam-like columns are created in the skin while leaving surrounding tissue intact. These beams eradicate damaged collagen and elastic fibers so that fresh skin with renewed elasticity can grow back in its place. Because only a “fraction” of the skin is affected, healing is very quick and virtually painless. Therefore, it mimics the results previously realized only through eyelid surgery, without the risks and downtime!

Do you have to be a certain age for the Laser Eye Lift?

Age is not an issue. It depends on the changes around the eyes.

Will the laser work on darker skin?

In most cases, it works very well on darker skin. However, to be on the safe side, we do a test spot in the eyelid area first to be sure there is no change in pigmentation.

Do I have to stay out of the sun prior to laser treatment?

No, but we prefer limited sun exposure2 weeks prior to the treatment. We recommend that you wear a sunscreen after the Fractional Eye Lift as is the case after any laser treatment.

How many sessions are needed for the Laser Eye Lift?

The number of sessions depends on the individual changes present. On average, most people need between 3-5 sessions.

How long in between each treatment?

We usually space sessions at 2-3 week intervals

What is the downtime after the laser Eye Lift?

Most people are a little red and puffy for a day or two. However, one can apply make-up  the next day to hide redness.

How long will the results of the Laser Eye Lift procedure last?

As new collagen is produced, we expect the results to last for at least several years. But as the technology is so new, it is difficult to be sure at this point.

Are there any other treatments and/or injectables I should be using to prolong my results (such as Botox)?

Botox can be injected after the Fractional Eye Lift to help prolong the results.  We also recommend the use of a medical grade eye cream to maintain and enhance the results.

Tear Trough (Under Eye) Filler

Tear trough rejuvenation is a non-surgical aesthetic treatment for women, both young and old, with lower eyelid dark circles or dark hollows in the under eye area referred to as the tear trough. These tear trough defects can present because of genetics, but can also present as part of the aging process.  For many patients, filler treatments in the under eye area are an effective and safe alternative to surgery and may be the solution you have been looking for.

Dr. Serrão is an expert with tear trough correction with the use of fillers, having performed hundreds of treatments. Women from all around the world seek his expertise for their eye rejuvenation procedures.

Tear Trough defect and dark circles under the eyes

A weakening of the orbital septum in the lower eyelid and a loss of soft tissue volume in the mid-face cheek area accentuate the appearance of the lower bony orbital margin that lies between the lower eyelid and cheek. This also leads to the appearance of lower eyelid fat pockets or ‘eye bags’ and together these can lead to a dark shadow or hollow beneath the eyes referred to as a tear trough defect. Individuals with this defect often complain that they look tired and older than they really are.

The aging process leads to tissue laxity (looseness) and volume loss in the lower eyelid and mid-face cheek area, causing the tear trough to become more prominent.  Although it is more common for the tear trough defect to develop as we age, even younger patients can present with a deformity of the tear trough.

Traditionally, a tear trough deformity was corrected with cosmetic eyelid surgery, but today treatment of the tear trough with facial fillers is a popular alternative. Most individuals prefer a non-surgical approach, but in some cases, surgery may still be required to obtain the desired outcome based on the severity of the tear trough deformity.

Fillers for Tear Trough correction

Treatment of a tear trough defect with facial fillers can provide natural, long-lasting results without any downtime and with little discomfort.  Dr. John Serrão’s fillers of choice for the tear trough area are Restylane and Belotero.  These products have a good consistency providing for a natural looking result that can last for more than a year.  They are both hyaluronic acid fillers and can be broken down for removal with an injection of a reversal agent should it become necessary.

However, not all fillers are created equal and they are not all recommended for use in this delicate under eye area.  Although most undesirable results are temporary and will resolve over time, some products can lead to puffiness, nodule formation and the tyndall effect which is a bluish discoloration of the under eye tissue.  Product selection and injection technique is very important to achieve a desirable outcome for the correction of a tear trough deformity using facial fillers.

Experience in Tear Trough Filler injections

Dr. John Serrão is one of the most experienced injectors in Orlando and has performed hundreds of tear trough filler injections with results that patients have been very pleased with.  Treatment of the tear trough with fillers requires artistry and skill to achieve the desired cosmetic result.  The placement of the product is essential in this area as improper injection technique can lead to undesirable patient outcomes and complications.

If the tear trough filler is not injected with proper technique the satisfaction rate is very low.  Dr. Serrão sees patients for correction or reversal of tear trough injections on a regular basis because they were treated somewhere else and were unhappy with the results. Fortunately, most tear trough injections can be reversed and corrected with considerable improvement as long as a permanent product was not originally injected.

Tear Trough (under eye) Filler FAQs

What is a Tear Trough Filler treatment?

A tear trough filler treatment is a non-surgical injection that is done in the office to correct the deformity of the tear trough in the under eye area.  The hyaluronic acid fillers that are commonly used by Dr. Serrão in this area are Restylane and Belotero because they give consistently pleasing results when injected properly.

Women requests tear trough correction because they do not like the fatty pockets or hollow look under their eyes, feel they look tired all of the time and appear older than they really are.  These tear trough treatments help to soften the hollow area and shadows creating a more refreshed appearance to the lower eyelid and mid-face cheek area.

What type of anesthesia is used for under eye filler treatment?

LATISSE®

There’s been a growing interest in Latisse ever since it was introduced. And it’s no wonder. LATISSE® is the first and only FDA-approved prescription treatment for inadequate or not enough eyelashes, growing them longer, fuller and darker.

Discover the LATISSE® difference.

LATISSE® solution is a growth treatment for lashes. In fact, it’s the only FDA-approved treatment clinically proven to grow lashes. And it’s the only lash growth product of its kind available by prescription. So you’ll need to talk to Dr. Serrao or a member of our team to see if it’s right for you.

LATISSE® grows lashes longer, fuller and darker.

LATISSE® solution is a once-nightly treatment you apply topically to the base of your upper eyelashes, as instructed by our medical team. Then, gradually, the results come in. You may start to see more length in as little as 4 weeks and you should achieve full growth in 16 weeks. It’s not an illusion of growth. It’s real lash growth.

How LATISSE® works.

LATISSE® makes lash growth possible because of its active ingredient: bimatoprost. Although the precise mechanism of action is unknown, LATISSE® is believed to affect the growth (anagen) phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways: first, it increases the length of this phase, and second, it increases the number of hairs in this growth phase.
